“Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”This painting recalls a garden grown from seed, planted by the artist for her mother to see from the front window of their Vancouver home. Home sold in 2021 after Covid, the house remains — but the garden is gone.
It was alive: colour, scent, and texture through every season, even under snow. Birds were drawn by the flowers, a birdbath, fresh water, and the simple absence of cats. In turn, they sustained it — scattering seeds, turning soil for insects, nesting in the ornamental cherry trees, and sheltering in birdhouses and beneath the eaves.
A small, self-renewing world. Now only remembered.
